Summary

The fifth novel in the New York Times bestselling Witcher series that inspired the hit Netflix show finds Ciri trapped in a distant world and separated from Geralt and her destiny。

After walking through a portal in the Tower of the Swallow, thus narrowly escaping death, the Witcher girl, Ciri, finds herself in a completely different world。。。 a world of the Elves。 She is trapped with no way out。 Time does not seem to exist and there are no obvious borders or portals to cross back into her home world。

But this is Ciri, the child of prophecy, and she will not be defeated。 She knows she must escape to finally rejoin the Witcher, Geralt, and his companions - and also to try to conquer her worst nightmare。 Leo Bonhart, the man who chased, wounded and tortured Ciri, is still on her trail。

And the world is still at war。

Definitely feels like the plot got away from Sapkowski on this one。 Some bold choices were made, they weren't good but they were bold。 Definitely feels like the plot got away from Sapkowski on this one。 Some bold choices were made, they weren't good but they were bold。 。。。more

Overall an average book。 Gets quite boring at times。 The ending was very sad which was not unexpected for me as I have played the games and I know the story doesn't end with the books。 Overall an average book。 Gets quite boring at times。 The ending was very sad which was not unexpected for me as I have played the games and I know the story doesn't end with the books。 。。。more

I feel like I am going to mimic a lot of other reviews here。This book felt like a collection of short stories, mostly well-written, but often disjointed。It would have made for a much more powerful and impactful ending if the story had ended just after the events of Stygga castle。 The 150+ page "epilogue" that followed, while interesting from a world-building point of view, dragged on for far too long。If it wasn't for the excellent narration by Peter Kenny I probably wouldn't have given this more I feel like I am going to mimic a lot of other reviews here。This book felt like a collection of short stories, mostly well-written, but often disjointed。It would have made for a much more powerful and impactful ending if the story had ended just after the events of Stygga castle。 The 150+ page "epilogue" that followed, while interesting from a world-building point of view, dragged on for far too long。If it wasn't for the excellent narration by Peter Kenny I probably wouldn't have given this more than 3 star。Over the course of the Witcher series I realized that the only sections I thoroughly enjoyed were the ones following Geralt and his band of misfits。 Which is why Baptism of Fire is the only book in the series I gave 5 stars, as that book dealt almost exclusively with their (mis)adventures。Contrasting that, I actively disliked most sections related to mages/sorceresses, mostly because they were just so damn unlikable (probably intentionally so, but still)。My opinions of the sections from Ciri's point of view oscillated between the two ends of the spectrum outlined above。 。。。more

Rating: 2。5/5 stars Thoughts: God, what the hell is this? While their are something interesting ideas presented in the final book in the saga, I disliked every moment of reading it。 Hate the ending too。

Je n’ai pas terminé le livre。 J’ai trouvé l’histoire trop lente et trop fragmentée

Found it quite confusing 70% of time。 There were so many time and storyline jumps that the battle between Nilfgard and nordlings was almost incomprehensible。 The end wasn't as rewarding as I would have expected, it feels like the main characters got weaker at the end。 Even though Ciri's time and space jumps were confusing I enjoyed them。 Plot twist with Ciri's parentage was also pretty awesome。 I loved the whole series, but would like a stronger end to the saga。 Found it quite confusing 70% of time。 There were so many time and storyline jumps that the battle between Nilfgard and nordlings was almost incomprehensible。 The end wasn't as rewarding as I would have expected, it feels like the main characters got weaker at the end。 Even though Ciri's time and space jumps were confusing I enjoyed them。 Plot twist with Ciri's parentage was also pretty awesome。 I loved the whole series, but would like a stronger end to the saga。 。。。more

A very cool conclusion book! I was super confused by the ending until I read that it mirrors the ending of King Arthur's story, which makes a lot of sense。 The series was definitely worth reading! An epic conclusion to an epic saga。Something ends, something begins。

This has been a highly entertaining series, although I did find my attention wandering a few times during the arguments and political machinations of the various factions。 I love Geralt, Ciri, Yennefer and Dandelion, as well as numerous other characters。 I listened to the audiobooks, and the reader did an amazing job bringing the story to life。

Initially I found this to be an enjoyable read。 It's been a while since I read the last book (probably a year now) and it took some time for me to get the momentum going。 I did get there eventually at around 25% or so, and it really began to get really good。 I had some 'Oh yeah!' moments along the way。 However, after around 68% or so (yes, I made a mental note when I felt the dip coming) my interest just took a major drop。 I honestly struggled to make it to the end of this one and even ended up Initially I found this to be an enjoyable read。 It's been a while since I read the last book (probably a year now) and it took some time for me to get the momentum going。 I did get there eventually at around 25% or so, and it really began to get really good。 I had some 'Oh yeah!' moments along the way。 However, after around 68% or so (yes, I made a mental note when I felt the dip coming) my interest just took a major drop。 I honestly struggled to make it to the end of this one and even ended up flipping over a few pages in an attempt to hit a sweet spot。 Let me tell you-it never came。 I'm a bit disappointed when I think back to the great work that was done in the previous books and I have seen some bad reviews on the remaining ones。。。。so I really don't know if I'll continue this series。 Maybe I rushed this one and I may probably pick it up again in the future to see what I may have missed。 。。。more

Writing this review while I’m raging, semi apologize if I’m all over the place。I honestly don’t understand how so many readers adore this series!I read it just for the sake of finishing this series。 Also had a small hope that it would be better than the majority of the series。I enjoyed the short stories but when I got to the novels I couldn’t understand what there is to love about them。 I only really enjoyed the ending of book 3 and ending of book 4。 Most importantly, why so much sexual assault? Why the attempted rape in the first 50 pages of this novel? Or the breeding THAT CIRI AGREED TO? THERE’S EVEN A SMALL POEM ABOUT RAPE! Right before chapter 5。In the previous book Ciri was sexually assaulted first but a guy following by a girl in ONE chapter, and when I went on forums I found people arguing about the girl because it is nothing like how movies portray rape and the victims。 I’m just so shocked。 I’m AFRAID to look up what people thought of this novel。What is there to love about Geralt? A big sexy man that kills monsters? And every woman wants him?And Yennefer? Or any sorceress for that matter in this series are just evil。Zero character development。Not a single likeable character。Plot all over the place。 Ciri unlocking a new power to travel other worlds in last book? Wow, just wonderful。And that big reveal at the end。。。。。。I want to burn this。 。。。more

I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobooks of this title。 (Goodfm)The tying of it all together, filling in the gaps of details where some of the other episodes missed。 Plus where they all ended up and how。 Yes, a very satisfying conclusion to a very intriguing and interesting series。 I do suggest that you start from the beginning, as I picked up a middle episode and although it wetted my appetite for more, I ended up revisiting that episode to catch the nuances I had missed。I I have submitted this review after listening to the audiobooks of this title。 (Goodfm)The tying of it all together, filling in the gaps of details where some of the other episodes missed。 Plus where they all ended up and how。 Yes, a very satisfying conclusion to a very intriguing and interesting series。 I do suggest that you start from the beginning, as I picked up a middle episode and although it wetted my appetite for more, I ended up revisiting that episode to catch the nuances I had missed。I must recommend the audiobooks of this series, it definitely added depth to the tale。 。。。more
